A deductible is the amount you would pay before your insurance company pays out on a covered comprehensive or collision claim. For example, if you have collision coverage on your policy with a $1000 deductible, and you are involved in a covered loss that causes $5000 in damages to your vehicle you would pay the $1000 and your insurance company would pay the remaining $4000 to repair your vehicle.
