Typically, the biggest delays are caused by the adjuster not having a piece of crucial information that they need to resolve the claim. This could include photos of the damage, a police report, or other supporting documentation.
We highly encourage you to add your adjuster’s phone and email information to your list of contacts so that you never miss important messages from them. Not responding to emails or not being available by phone are often the biggest reasons for a claim settlement being delayed.
In some cases, a claim may require “subrogation” which involves two or more insurance companies reviewing the claim to determine which company’s insured was at fault.
Remember, the adjuster is investigating all the information related to your claim. They are contacting all involved parties, other insurance companies, witnesses and estimators. It may seem like no progress is being made, but rest assured your adjuster is working towards a full resolution on your claim. Because of this, your adjuster may have little to no update on your claim until a full investigation is complete before they can accurately determine coverage.
